Beeswax Wrap Recipe

Materials needed:

  • Beeswax pellets (or a get a bar of beeswax and grate your own)
  • Cotton fabric in prints of your choice. You can buy already cut squares of fabric or cut your own in varying sizes.
  • Pinking shears
  • Parchment paper
  • Baking sheet
  • 1″ paint brush



  1. Pre-heat the oven to its lowest setting (or 200F).
  2. If you need to cut your fabric into smaller sizes, using pinking shears will help keep the edges from fraying. Try using different sizes. Smaller sizes (6×6) for wrapping small items and larger (12×12 and up) for wrapping sandwiches or covering bowls.
  3. Cover the baking sheet with parchment paper , lay fabric down, and sprinkle the fabric with beeswax beads/shreds. Go lightly here. You can always add more, but too much wax gives you a thick piece of fabric, which isn’t what you want. Make sure the fabric doesn’t go over the edges of the pan or you will have wax dripping in your oven. Put it in the oven and let it melt for 5 minutes. Check to see if all of the wax has melted. If not, put back in the oven for a few minutes. Once all the wax has melted you can use the brush to “paint” the wax around the fabric and make sure there are no bare spots.
  4. Once you’re sure the wax covers the whole piece, you can gently pick up the fabric and hang it to dry for a few minutes. Once dry, you can fold it and store it for use! It might feel stiff at first, but with use it becomes very pliable and sticks to itself and containers quite well.
  5. To clean your wrap, use a little dish soap and wash under lukewarm water. Hot water will cause the wax to get soft and flake off.
